Description

I painted Father Solanus in acrylic paint during the pandemic. Father Solanus healed many people in his lifetime and many people have been healed at his tomb on the east side of Detroit, my grandmother is one of them. I painted this with the intention of honoring a great healer in a city that suffered greatly from Covid19. This art was a prayer for the beloved city. You see behind Father Solanus the St Bonaventure Monastery which is at 1740 Mt Elliot in Detroit. He’s standing on a skull signifying conquering of death and disease. He was known to play the violin for people, especially Irish jigs. The roses represent the blossoms of love he inspired. May Detroit and the world at large know true physical mental and spiritual healing!
Here is the short description of Father Solanus on Wikipedia, there’s much more to read if interested. “Solanus Casey (November 25, 1870 – July 31, 1957), born Bernard Francis Casey, was a priest of the Catholic Church in the United States and was a professed member of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin. He was known during his lifetime as a wonderworker, for his great faith, and for his abilities as a spiritual counselor, but especially for his great attention to the sick, for whom he celebrated special Masses. The friar was much sought-after and came to be revered in Detroit where he resided. He was also a noted lover of the violin, a trait he shared with his eponym, Saint Francis Solanus.”
