About

Jeremy “Jah Sunny” Johnson-LeMieux

Artist • Educator • Muralist

Jeremy “Jah Sunny” Johnson-LeMieux is a Michigan based visual artist and educator with more than 25 years of experience in painting, drawing, murals and illustration. His work explores portraiture, spirituality, cultural identity, music and history, drawing inspiration from classical and devotional art, African and Caribbean traditions, mysticism, yogic philosophy, counterculture and the cultural landscape of Detroit.

Travel and cultural exploration have become an important part of his creative practice. Extended travels throughout Europe have taken him to historic and sacred sites across Spain, France, England, Scotland and Ireland, deepening his interest in the ways art, spirituality and tradition intersect. His own work ranges from intimate portraits and spiritual imagery to large scale narrative murals and has appeared in juried exhibitions, public spaces and international publications. Education is an increasingly important part of Sunny’s practice. He teaches Figure Drawing and Portrait Art at the Northville Art House as well as the Downriver Council of the Arts and has led workshops, public presentations and retreats exploring art, history, creativity and spirituality. He holds a BFA with a minor in Art History from Wayne State University in Detroit and an Associate Degree in Graphic Design Technology from Washtenaw Community College.

At the center of his work is a belief in art as a means of storytelling, inquiry and human connection. As both an artist and educator, he continues to explore how images can connect people across cultures, histories and spiritual traditions.
